Project Overview

The objective of this project was to define effective prioritization methods to systematically organize and address the needs of our design system. We implemented two key models to streamline our process while choosing upcoming system user needs.

Impact–Effort Matrix Model

Started by deciding what projects aren’t critical. Putting low-priority features aside allows us to spend the design system team’s valuable time on higher-priority features. Once this is done, we utilise the Impact Effort Matrix seen below. Features that require the lowest effort for the highest impact go to the top of our backlog, and items that require greater effort but will have a low impact go to the bottom of the list.

RICE Model

RICE is an acronym that stands for Reach, Impact, Confidence, and Effort. By evaluating and scoring each of your competing ideas, you can come up with a concrete number to determine which initiatives should be prioritised and in which order.
